Arthur Aviles Typical Theatre (AATT) is a Bronx-based
contemporary modern dance
company committed to carving a permanent niche in the Bronx cultural landscape
with a repertory of works that explore life on the margins of Latino
and gay cultures, and to bring these works to a local, national
and international audience.
After dancing for eight years with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie
Zane
Dance Company, Arthur Aviles left the company and began Arthur
Aviles Typical Theatre (AATT) in 1996. The company had an explosive
debut in Paris, France performing Maéva and the Floating Man.
In the same fall of that year, he moved his company to the
South Bronx.
In December 1998 Mr. Aviles established the Bronx
Academy of Arts and Dance (BAAD!) in
collaboration with the Point Community
Development Corporation in the
Hunts Point section of the
South Bronx. Located in the
American Banknote Building,
the 70 seat workshop,
rehearsal and performance
space is dedicated to presenting
cutting-edge and challenging works of emergent and established choreographers,
directors, playwrights, dancers, poets, musicians, dancers and artists.
Over the last three years, AATT has performed at Hostos
Center for the Arts and
Culture, The Live From The Edge Theatre at the Point CDC, the Lovinger
Theatre
at Lehman College, Bronx River Arts Center and Gallery, Drew Garden, all
along
